Modern curtain styles we make
Curtain style is decided by the heading — how the fabric gathers at the top. This is what changes the look far more than the fabric itself. These are the headings we stitch in Doha:
- Wave / ripple fold
- Continuous soft S-curves on a corded track. The current default for modern Doha villas and apartments. Needs 2–2.2× fullness and a proper wave track — not a rod.
- S-fold (Euro / wave hybrid)
- Deeper, more sculptural waves. Excellent on floor-to-ceiling windows above 3 m.
- Pinch pleat (double / triple)
- Classic tailored fan pleats. Suits majlis rooms and formal sitting rooms, works on both track and decorative rod.
- Eyelet / grommet
- Metal rings on a visible rod. Cheapest to make, quick to hang, casual look — good for kids' rooms and staff accommodation.
- Rod pocket & tab top
- Budget headings for light sheers where the rod stays fixed.
- Roman fold
- Fabric that stacks in horizontal folds. Behaves like a blind, reads like a curtain. Good where there is no space for side stacking.
Sheer, blackout or both?
Most Qatari homes use double-layer: a sheer inner curtain for daytime privacy and a blackout outer for heat and light. Given Doha summer sun on west- and south-facing glass, we recommend blackout or dim-out lining on any bedroom.
| Fabric | Light blocked | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Sheer / voile / linen look | 10–30% | Daytime privacy, layering |
| Dim-out | 70–85% | Living rooms, majlis |
| 3-pass blackout | 95–100% | Bedrooms, night-shift workers, nurseries |
| Thermal blackout | 100% + heat reflect | West-facing glass, AC bill reduction |
| Velvet | 90–100% | Majlis, hotel, acoustic damping |
Motorised and smart curtains
We fit motorised tracks that pair with a remote, a wall keypad, or your phone. Systems can integrate with Google Home, Alexa, Apple Home and Tuya, and can be set to close automatically at peak sun. Rechargeable lithium motors avoid new wiring in a finished villa; hard-wired motors are the better choice during construction. See motorised curtains in Qatar.
Measuring: what we check
- Rail height versus ceiling — curtains hung at ceiling line make a room read taller.
- Stack-back space so open curtains clear the glass instead of blocking it.
- Floor clearance: 1 cm break for daily-use rooms, puddle only for formal majlis.
- AC vents, curtain box (bulkhead) depth, gypsum strength for fixings.
- Window direction — west-facing rooms in Doha need heavier lining.
All of this is why we measure ourselves and do not accept customer-supplied measurements for the guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
How much are made-to-measure curtains in Doha?
It depends on the fabric, the heading and the track. Sheers are the most affordable, then blackout, then wave or S-fold on a designer track; motorisation is priced per track. We measure free and send a written quote the same working day.
What is the difference between wave curtains and pinch pleat?
Wave curtains run on a corded track and hang in continuous soft S-curves with no visible pleat stitching — the modern look. Pinch pleat is hand-formed into fans at the heading and can hang on a decorative rod, giving a more traditional, tailored finish.
How much fabric fullness do I need?
2× the track width is the practical minimum for a good drape. Wave and S-fold headings want 2–2.2×. Anything under 1.8× looks flat and cheap once installed.
Can you match curtains to an existing majlis?
Yes. We bring the fabric books to your home so you can compare against your actual sofa, carpet and wall colour under your own lighting, which never matches a showroom.
Do you supply curtain rods and tracks too?
Yes — plain and decorative rods, ceiling and wall-mounted tracks, wave tracks, double tracks for sheer plus blackout, and motorised tracks. Hardware is included in the quoted price.
